In such a polarized political and media landscape, good journalism is needed more than ever. In 2023, the Agora Journalism Center released Redefining News: A Manifesto for Community-Centered Journalism, an outline of the principles that define the community-centered journalism movement. CCG is journalism designed to serve communities by partnering with them, not just reporting on them.
In September they released Advancing Community-Centered Journalism, a guidebook on how newsrooms are working more closely with communities to identify — and tackle — the issues that matter most to the public. They are publishing chapters as separate posts on Medium. In this first post they outline five fundamental steps to help newsrooms transition from a traditional top-down approach to one that is more community-centered.
