Last year, Emma de Blok and a colleague traveled to Barcelona, where they met two people from Basetis, a technology and consultancy firm founded in 2009. Over the past decade, Basetis has radically transformed its organizational structure and management approach.

In 2015, the company eliminated the CEO position, distributing leadership across the organization. It now operates with a flat, decentralized structure aligned with Teal organizational principles. Fluid, self-organizing teams determine how they work, who they collaborate with, and how they structure themselves.

Since adopting this model, Basetis has grown from 150 employees to approximately 384 in 2024. In 2022 the company achieved a record turnover of 16.5 million euros. Founder, Marc Castells, credits their self-management approach for dramatically increasing competitiveness.

• Self-management isn't radical. It’s simply the natural evolution of work.

• Not everything needs a policy. Sometimes, common sense is enough.

• Iterate, don't copy. Your company isn’t Basetis—find what works for you.

• Expect skeptics. But do it anyway.
